The Museum of Modern Art will present Anar Huseynzada’s solo exhibition “O”. Through
figurative painting and portraiture, the exhibition explores questions of existence, truth, and
the human search for spiritual meaning. “O” signifies a being beyond any specific name or image, poised between the visible and invisible worlds. It symbolises the connection between beginning and end, existence and nonexistence, and humanity and the truth it seeks.
The human figure holds a central place in Huseynzada’s works. The artist looks beyond physical appearance to explore the individual’s inner world, lived experiences, encounters with others, and spiritual search. The exhibition’s title also reflects the open-ended nature of this search: Who is “O”?
Literature, history, legends, religious and philosophical thought, and personal dreams inspire Huseynzada’s practice. Motifs drawn from spiritual traditions, including Islam, Christianity, and Buddhism, serve primarily as symbols of the inner journey and spiritual quest rather than literal religious depictions.
“O” is ultimately a reflection on the nature of searching itself. We are born, seek, love, lose, and seek again. Along this journey, a new question emerges rather than an answer: What are we truly searching for?
